Denim expo showcases eco-friendly products

The fifth edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo 2016, which ended in the capital yesterday, explored the latest in trends and advances in fabrics and technologies that will form the future of the denim business in Bangladesh.

54 exhibitors from 15 different countries took part in this year’s expo. The entire expo was beautifully decorated with different integral parts which comprised; knowledge session, technical workshop, panel discussion and special events as well.             
‘Sustainable product evolution that respects our planet’ so was the motto of this year’s expo, so all the booths were made from bamboo and which were eco-friendly for the environment. The booths are ecological and fully biodegradable as well as complementing the shades of indigo.
German Ambassador to Bangladesh Thomas Prinz said: “To achieve the 50 billion targets by 2021 in the RMG (Ready made garment) sector, most of the factories will have to ensure the process of sustainability”.
He also added that the safety standards of this sector have already been met.   
“Almost 27 factories manufacture denim fabrics in Bangladesh. Showcasing premium products, generating leads, making new connections; these are the reasons to participate in this expo,” described Executive Sales and Marketing of Square Denims Ltd Tanveer Mahmood.
Tanveer also told The Independent that “Value addition and manufacture premium products to get price benefits should be the focus point of Bangladesh at this moment.” 
The expo discussed a lot of issues for health and safety. Some of the agendas that discussed at the event were--investment in education and training for young people, transfer knowledge among designers, merchandisers and buyers.
Buyers expressed their satisfaction getting exhibitors of entire denim value chain – from fabrics to washes – under one roof of the Bangladesh Denim Expo. The exhibitors also made new connections in the show as a good number of buyers thronged the expo.
