RAJSHAHI: A court here has accepted to hear the murder case of Prof Dr AFM Rezaul Karim Siddique, a teacher of English department at Rajshahi University (RU).
Judge Zahidul Islam, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court-3, accepted the case yesterday, informed by CMM court inspector Abul Hashem.
On November 6 Rezaus Sadik, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet accusing eight JMB men (outlaw organisation), six months after the murder.
Of the eight accused, three JMB activists Khairul Islam Badal, Nazrul Islam and Osman Hossen were killed in gunfight with law enforcers earlier. Among others, RU English department student Shariful Islam is now on the run. Other accused-- Md Maskawath alias Abdullah, Ripon Hossain, Abdus Satter and Md Rahmatullah, suspected JMB men, are now in police custody. All of them have been given deposition under Section 164, said Iftekhar Alam, spokesman of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
Police sources said on Tuesday police produced 11 people, including four enlisted of the charge sheet, before the CMM court while judge ordered to accept the charge sheet. Later, in second hearing the court released seven others from the case. After the murder, they have been arrested as suspected from different parts of the district and they are now in police custody. On April 23, Prof Rezaul was brutally killed by unidentified miscreants near his residence in Shalbagan area of the city. Later, his son Riasat filed a murder case with Boalia police station.
