Nasirnagar attackers to be hunted down: Home minister

UNB

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said those involved in attacks on Hindu community members in Nasirnagar upazila will be hunted down and brought to justice, reports UNB. “There’s no other option but to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” he told a rally at Ashutosh Pilot High School ground after visiting the Hindu houses and Nasirnagar Goura Temple, which came under attacks on October 30. Noting that there is no minority in Bangladesh, the minister said those who are involved in destabilising the country through militant activities are actually minority people, calling upon all to get united and resist them. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque, State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Shikder, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque, additional IGP Md Javed Patwari,
Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed, deputy commissioner Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain and police super of the district Mizanur Rahman were present. Dr Biren Shikder urged all to annihilate those who tainted the tradition of thousand years through the attacks.
Terming those who carried out the attacks as the country’s enemies, the IGP said stern actions will be taken against them. He also said there is no involvement of any moulvis (religious clerics) in the attacks as shown in the video footages of the incident. On October 30, an unruly mob equipped with sharp weapons went berserk and demolished a number of Hindu temples and nearly 100 houses in the upazila following a rumour of a Facebook post demeaning the holy Kaaba. In a fresh attack on Friday, miscreants also set fire to at least six houses of Hindus in the upazila amid alertness of law enforcement agencies and local administration.
