Raas Mela begins Nov 12

KHULNA: The three-day traditional Raas Mela at Dublar Char island near the Sundarbans will be held on November 12-14 this year amid tight security, reports UNB.
Thousands of people, irrespective of their faith, will throng the festival at Alorkol, which is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal in Sharankhola upazila of the district, to perform ritualistic immersion into the holy water of the Pashur estuary.
The Forest Department has fixed eight waterways for devotees and visitors to go to Dublar Char to join the Raas Mela.
The routes are: From the Burigoalini-Kobadak rivers to Dublarchar via the Batulanadi-Balnadi-Patkoshta-Hongshoraj rivers; from Kadamtola-Ichhamati rivers to Dublar char via the Arpanghasiato-Kagadobeki rivers; from Koikhali Station to Dublar Char via the Madargong-Khoprakhali Bharani, Debaki, Arpangasia-Kagadebaki; from Koyra, Kashiabad, Khashitana, Bojboja via Arua Shibsa, the Shibsa river, Morjat to Dublar Char; from Naliyan Station to Dublar char via theShibsha-Marjat river. Dangmari/Chandpai station to Dublar char via the Pashur river, Bogi-Baleswar-Supoti Station-Kachikhali-Shelar Char to Dublar Char; and from Sharankhola Station-Supoti Station-Kachikhali-Shelar Char to Dublar char.
Forest officials, members of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Coast Guard will be deployed to ensure the security of the devotees.
The visitors and devotes will be permitted to stay at the festival for three days after providing a fixed entry fee, said a letter signed by Divisional Forest Officer (West Zone) Mohammad Syed Ali. Boats, launches and trawlers have to go the festival area through the Forest Department check points. Rash Purnima, the day of full moon in the Bangla month of Kartik (late autumn), is celebrated as the moment of union of Hindu god Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha.
Rash Purnima is mainly celebrated at Dublar Char in the Sundarbans, at Kalapara in Kuakata upazila of Patuakhali, and in Komalganj upazila of Moulvibazar in the country.
