Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday flayed Opposition Leader in Parliament Raushan Ershad for seeking apology in the House regarding his comment on women members of parliament (MPs).
Rising on a point of order in the Hosue, the JP chief, also a special envoy to the prime minister, said, “Nobody has the right to seek apology for my mistake. I made certain remarks on the empowerment of women while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2015-16FY in this house. Later, I withdrew my words. After my remarks, the leader of the opposition offered apology for my comments which was beyond her jurisdiction.” Observing that Raushan cannot do so, Ershad said let the words in her speech containing his remarks be expunged.
Addressing the speaker, Ershad also said the word he had used in his speech was not un-parliamentary.
Earlier, while participating in a discussion on the proposed budget for the 2015-16FY, Ershad described women MPs in parliament as ‘showpieces’.
