BNP leaders said yesterday (Monday) that they would wait till the last moment for permission to hold the rally in front of the party's central office to mark “National Revolution and Solidarity Day”. “We have not yet been given permission to hold the rally today. We want to hold the rally in a constitutional manner. Let the government tell us when we can hold the rally, today or the day after,” said BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed hope that good sense would prevail and the government would give permission for the rally at Naya Paltan. He was talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the mazar of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
He accused the Awami League (AL) of distorting the history of "National Revolution and Solidarity Day", saying the ruling party always undermined history.
"They (AL) are distorting history and dilly-dallying on giving permission for the rally on 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day',” he said.
Briefing reporters, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party’s decision to hold the rally has not been changed. He also said there is no problem if the authorities give them permission to hold the rally on November 9. “Our preparations for the rally are in the final stages. We still hope that the authorities will give us permission,” he added.
