Bhola: Monpura Health Complex, the only healthcare facility at the remote island upazila, is in great crisis of doctors, nurses and medicines, reports UNB.
Patients have been deprived of the services at the hospital which now has only three doctors against 11 posts created since its inception.
Even small surgeries are impossible here due to the absence of surgeon, gynaecologist and anesthesiologist.
There is no diagnostic facility such as x-ray and ultra sonogram. Mahmudur Rashid, Health and Family Planning officer of Monpura Upazila, said the patients are facing problems because of inadequate doctors.
He added that the hospital has no store keeper, leading to medicine crisis.Monpura Health complex was established in 1996 with 31 beds and later turned into a 51-bed facility without ensuring the manpower and logistics. Dr Nityanda Chowdhury, acting civil surgeon of Bhola, said the higher authorities have been informed of these problems. He also added that medicines needed for six months will be delivered shortly to help the hospital get through the crisis.
