The cabinet yesterday approved a proposal for the expansion of ‘National Service Programme’ to 64 more upazilas, including four of the three hill districts, aiming to create more jobs for youths, reports UNB.
The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the National Service Programme will be expanded under 5th, 6th and 7th phases to poverty-prone 64 more upazilas, including two of Khagrachhari and one each of Bandarban and Rangamati districts.
“Of them, 20 upazilas each will be selected under the 5th, 6th and 7th phases of the programme while four more upazilas from the three hilly districts in the three phases,” he added.
Under the programme, the Cabinet Secretary said, educated unemployed youths will be imparted training for three months from May, 2017 and they will get Tk 100 a day as training allowance.
Shafiul Alam said the youths will get jobs in various government offices for two years under the payroll system on completion of their training and get Tk 200 a day as wage during the period.
The government will spend about Tk 544.90 crore in this regard, he said.
Alam said the cabinet also approved the draft of ‘The National Organic Agriculture Policy’ aimed at promoting the use of ‘organic and balanced’ fertilisers.
He said the policy has focused on increasing the use of ‘organic and balanced’ fertilisers in the country to compensate the land erosion and reduction of fertility of land due to use of chemical fertilisers.
The Cabinet also approved the draft of Memorandum of Understanding for establishment of Bimstec Grid Interconnection to be signed by its member states.
It also gave final approval to the draft of the ‘Palli Sanchay Bank (amendment) Ordinance, 2016’ withdrawing the time bar for merging the One House One Farm project with the Palli Sanchay Bank.
One House One Farm Project project was scheduled to end on June 30, 2016 and thereafter was also scheduled to be merged with the Palli Sanchay Bank. “Since there has been no enough preparation, a proposal was made in the Cabinet to change the sub section 1 (Ka) under Section 39 withdrawing the time bar and the Cabinet approved it,”
Ministers, state ministers and secretaries concerned were present at the meeting.
