3 teachers, 30 students of DU get Dean's Award
A total of 30 students of different departments under the Science faculty of Dhaka University (DU) were conferred ‘Dean's Award’ for their outstanding academic results in BS honours examination of 2014.
However, three teachers of the same faculty also received the award for their remarkable contributions in writing books and fundamental research, said a university release. DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Sunday distributed the certificates among the awardees as the chief guest at a function, held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus here.
Dean of the Science faculty Mohammed Abdul Aziz presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Md Akhtaruzzaman and Treasurer Md Kamal Uddin addressed the function as special guests.
Chairman of DU Chemistry department Nilufar Nahar delivered welcome speech at the function while Chairman of Statistics, Biostatistics and Informatics department MA Jalil gave vote of thanks. Associate Professor of the Institute of Statistical Research and Training Jahida Gulshan conducted the programme. Prof Siddique emphasized on the need of extended scientific research and education to improve the socio-economic condition of the country, the release added. He also urged the brilliant students to groom themselves with moral values and added that the students must play an effective role for making Bangladesh free from extremism and terrorism, it said.
BRUR admission tests begins Nov 13
RANGPUR: The admission tests for the first year honours courses of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) for the 2016-2017 academic sessions.will begin on November 13 and will continue November 17.
This year, a total of 61,577 admission seeker students will take part in the admission tests to be held at different venues in the city for 1,230 seats in all 21 departments under the six faculties of the university All academic classes will remain suspended at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) from November 9 to 17 next for holding admission tests. Besides, no examination will be held and all residential halls will remain closed from November 12 to 17 next, said a press release of the university issued here today. Detailed information about admit cards and overall admission process would be available on the university website at www.brur.ac.bd and http://brur.teletalk.com.bd). Besides, the admission related information could also be known from the helpline phone numbers 01558136814 and 01557229215 of the university, the release added.
NSU hosts ‘Future leaders for better Bangladesh’
North South University (NSU) organised a programme titled ‘Future leaders for better Bangladesh’ at a hotel in the capital on Sunday, says a press release.
In the programme, Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) and heads of human resources department of all prompt national and multinational companies attended and shared their views.
Prof Atiqul Islam, NSU vice-chancellor, chaired the session and Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of NSU, and few other BOT members and industrialist as well, NSU Alumni and Sr Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Munsurin Khan Chowdhury, Zara Jabeen Mahbub, Head of Communication, Brac Bank Ltd; Chief Engineer, IEB; Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Member, Board of Directors, Bangladesh Bank, Shahid Hossain, Managing Director, Southeast Bank, addressed the programme.
Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman, BOT mentioned that there are 15,000 alumni approx and NSU graduates are holding responsible positions in government and multinational organisations.
NSU VC said in order to keep education standard, NSU authority always prefers to be teamed with an academic and industrial community where students supported and get feedback by peers and professionals, work together for success.
An interactive session was conducted where country heads and HR heads gave their feedback on job requirements.
