Postponed JSC exam on Nov 12
CHITTAGONG: The postponed examination of English Second Paper of the Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination under
Chittagong Education Board (CEB) will be held on November 12. CEB have postponed Sunday's scheduled English 2nd paper examination due to stormy weather, board sources said. Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, Controller of Examinations of CEB told BSS that Sunday's JSC examination has been postponed due to inclement weather and it will be held at 10 am on November 12.
All other examinations will be held according to the previous schedule, he added.
1 killed in Gazipur road crash
A pickup van driver was killed as his vehicle hit a standing truck in Baroipara area under Kaliakoir upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The deceased was Chand Miah, 22, son of Abdur Rahim, a resident of Baldiata village under Dhanbari upazila in Tangail district. Officer-in-charge of Konabari Highway Thana Hossain Sarker said the accident occurred when the Tangail-bound pickup van hit a standing truck from behind in the area at about 7 am, leaving the van driver critically injured. Chand Miah was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
487 held in three months
The members of different law enforcement agencies arrested 487alleged drug traders and traffickers and seized huge quantity of drugs and narcotics substances during August, September and October in the district.
Police Super (SP) of Rangpur Md Mizanur Rahman disclosed the information while addressing at a press conference arranged at his conference in Rangpur city on Sunday. “Of them, police arrested 468 drug traffickers and traders and seized 685 bottles phensidyl, 63.98 kilogram ganja, 4,332 litres fermented liquor, 44 gram heroin, 4,457 pieces yaba tablets, 570 litres ‘tari’ and 20 litres rectified spirit,” he said. Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -13 and Drugs and Narcotics Control Department arrested 19 drug traders and traffickers and seized 225 bottles phensidyl, 1.50 kilogram ganja, 227 litres fermented liquor, 12 gram heroin, 4,539 pieces Yaba tablets and 100 litres ‘tari’ during the period, the SP said.
Road accident kills one
A security worker of Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills Limited (BSRM) was killed as a lorry ran over him in front of the factory in Akbarshah area on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 32, hailed from Jamalpur district. Police said Aminul was critically injured as a goods-laden lorry of BSRM ran over him while he was performing his duties in front of the factory in city's Akbarshah area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 9.30 pm on Sunday. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj Barua of CMCH police outpost.
36 firearms seized in Oct: DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered 36 firearms, 76 rounds of bullet and 24 magazines conducting separate drives in the capital last month.
Police also arrested 26 people and filed 11 cases with different police stations in connection with recovery of those firearms and ammunition during the period between October1-31. The firearms included seven revolvers, 13 pistols, including 12 foreign made, 11 shutter guns and five others types of firearms.
Sources at the DMP said police also recovered 50 crude bombs, 720 chocolate bombs and 75 kgs fireworks. Ten people were arrested and six cases were filed with different police stations in connection with recovery of the explosives, said Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
