The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined 45 business establishments Tk 2 lakh in the capital and 13 districts across the country on various charges, reports UNB.
The fines were slapped during drives conducted by the directorate on Sunday, said a PID handout on Monday.
The sale of expired products, selling goods at higher prices, not having maximum retail prices (MRP) on the product label and food adulteration were among the charges, it said.
In the capital, two pharmacies at Mohammadpur were fined Tk 20,000 and Tk 10,000 respectively for selling expired medicines while two establishments at Dhanmondi Tk 10,000 and Tk 5,000 respectively for selling goods at higher prices and another business organisation was penalised Tk 20,000 for engaging in activities which are dangerous for life and security of the consumers.
The other establishments were fined in Chittagong, Jhalakati, Panchagarh, Manikganj, Kushtia, Noakhali, Chandpur, Rangpur, Kishoreganj, Narail, Bagerhat, Faridpur and Patuakhali districts.
The directorate officials realised a total of Tk 202,500 from the 45 business establishments monitoring 16 markets.
