Vehicular movement on the Matidali-Banani road came to a standstill for an hour yesterday due to severe traffic jam.
Sources said sufferings of town residents multiplied following the acute traffic jam, which is a regular phenomenon in Borogola and Satmatha area.
Commuters blame the infringement of traffic rules and movement of unlicensed vehicles for the gridlock on the only major road of the town.
Advocate Nazmul Huda Papon, a resident of the town said he could not reach the court in time yesterday due to the nagging traffic congestion. Md Tanjimul Islam, an ambulance driver, said he had to remain stranded at Borogola area for about half an hour with a serious patient due to traffic congestion.
Md Abu Bakar, a pedestrian said: “Vehicular movement in Bogra town was not so severe during last Ramzan, but this year it has become impossible to walk on the town roads.” He blamed the police department for the traffic jam.
He also blamed that battery-run three wheelers locally called easy bikes. Auto rickshaws are now the main cause of frequent jam and accidents in Bogra town, he added.
Bikarna Kumar Chowdhury, Traffic Inspector of Bogra, said they are trying their best to bring the situation under control; but it has become difficult as the number of vehicles has increased ahead of Ramzan.
