10,726 qualify in 2nd merit list

HSC admission

A total of 10,726 candidates out of 62,850 were named in the second merit list for admission to higher secondary level in different colleges, sources in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, said yesterday.
The rest of the 52,124 admission seekers, however, will also get the opportunity to apply for colleges on the basis of vacant seats. Moreover, 6,921 students named in the first merit list have migrated to different colleges on the basis on vacant seats. The students migrating to another college will have to pay the admission fee again, board chairman Prof. Abu Bakkar Siddique said.
“Generally, we request the college where a student took admission first to return the admission fee. But it is not heeded. It could be beneficial for the students and guardians if the education ministry issues a circular in this regard,” he added.
A total of 1,156,224 students had applied for admission this year. Of them, 923,105 were named in the first merit list published by the board on June 29. The admission for the second merit list, including the migrating students, will be held on July 7 and July 8 without any late fee.
The admission seekers who were selected in the first and second merit lists but did not take admission in any college or were not selected for any college will again get the opportunity to apply to five educational institutions on condition of vacant seats between July 9 and July 10. However, they will not be charged any application fee. Their results will be published on July 11 and admission will be held on July 12.
Besides, the new admission seekers who did not apply will get the opportunity for application between July 13 and July 21 upon availability of vacant seats in the educational institutions. Their results will be published on July 23 and admission will take place on July 25 and July 26.
The board will complete the total education process in four phases. The government has for the first time started online admission across the country but faced problems during application and publication of results of the first merit list due to improper preparation.
