Govt fears BNP, says Khaleda

UNB

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday night alleged that the government is not allowing BNP to hold a rally in the city marking November 7 as it 'fears' the party, UNB reports. "We'd repeatedly observed Nov 7 in the past. We've planned to hold a rally this time as well, but they won't want to allow us to do so. Though they held a rally there (Suhrawardy Udyan), we can't do it as they  fear us and our rally," she said.
The BNP chief came up with the remarks while exchanging views with district unit leaders of  Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at her Gulshan office.
She said the government will not be able to keep people confined to their houses and shut their mouths for a long time. "We'll be out there in field. We'll surely hold our programmes together with people."
Having denied permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, the party on Friday said it sought fresh permission to stage it in front of its Nayapaltan central office on November 8 marking the 'National  Revolution and Solidarity Day'.
Speaking at a programme on Saturday, DMP Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah, however, said they did not get fresh application from BNP for giving it permission to hold its rally at Nayapaltan.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday termed 'untrue' the DMP Police Commissioner's statement.
Khaleda said the government is trying to block BNP at every step as her party has been on a path of truth and fairness. "We're mentally strong, and we'll finally succeed."
