Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque is scheduled to undertake a three-day visit to New Delhi from Tuesday (November 8) to prepare the ground work for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India next month, according to diplomatic sources. On Wednesday, they said that Foreign Secretary Haque will hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar to talk about the agenda of discussions between Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. About the agenda, they said both Dhaka and New Delhi are still working on it and officials from two countries were trying to make the visit a success. The issues likely to top the agenda include the Teesta water sharing agreement, security cooperation, trade and commerce, connectivity and cooperation in power sector, said the sources. Given the changed scenario, it is likely that there will be an added emphasis on security cooperation between the two neighbours, they said. Of course, they added that Bangladesh will press on the conclusion of the Teesta water sharing agreement. The agenda of discussions will take a shape after the meeting between the two foreign secretaries on Wednesday, said the sources. On the date of visit, they said that earlier it was all but confirmed that the visit would take place in the first week of December, but now it appears that the visit might take place a bit later. But, they hastened to add that the visit is all but certain to take place in December. Earlier, Prime Minister Hasina visited Delhi in January, 2010.
