Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday stressed the need for tolerance, mutual respect and communal harmony for strengthening democracy, reports UNB. “Endurance to others’ views, mutual respect and harmony sustain democracy,” she said while addressing the Kothin Chibor Dan festival at Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery at Sabujbagh in the capital. Dr Chaudhury, also chairperson of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, said inclusive democracy underlines participation of all and ensuring equal facilities for all. She said all religions prioritise the human values and norms which are needed to build a peaceful society. And the education system needs to focus on spreading human values among the young generation, said a Parliament Secretariat handout. Buddhist Kristhi Prochar Sangha President Shuddhananda Mohathero presided over the event.
