The National Board of Revenue received Tk 1,417.12 crore in income tax in the first five days of the weeklong National Income Tax Fair as 1,21,131 taxpayers paid income tax with filing tax returns.
On the fifth day alone, the NBR got Tk 259.93 crore in income tax from 30,218 taxpayers while 1.55 lakh people received services from taxmen at the country-wide fair venues including under-construction NBR building at Agargoan in Dhaka.
A total of 6,38,016 people received services related to income tax payment from the fair while 27,222 obtained online taxpayers identification numbers in five days.
The revenue board also started issuing user ID and passwords for getting access to its newly introduced online income tax returns submission system from Wednesday afternoon at the fair venue in Dhaka following huge demand from the taxpayers.
NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman inaugurated the service at the e-filing booth at the fair.
From, next year, ‘VAT and Supplementary Act, 2012’ are going to be introduced in tax fair. This ‘smart VAT’ act is the new attraction of this fair and all the information regarding this Act is accessible in VAT online advisory booth.
Abdus Salam, a service holder, while waiting for his tax-return told this correspondent that “I have been paying tax for last ten years. This year I have found all information and services in one platform for the first time, which is fantastic.
Next year, I will be eager to use online tax–return system,” NBR chairman also said that “300 top taxpayers are to be awarded this year. Among them, 100 male, 100 female and 100 young entrepreneurs have already selected to be recognised this year”
This year, NBR (National Board of Revenue) is anticipating more tax-payers are to be included than compare to previous years. The government official’s salary increment could be one reason behind the positive response of taxpayers.
Yesterday, tax-fair was held in 62 spots around the country; including, 48 districts and 14 upazilas among them 6 were mobile.
