Selectors overlook Nasir, Rubel, Al Amin

Selectors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made a big surprise when they announced a 22-member Tigers squad for the upcoming tour in Australia-New Zealand.

They disregard Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain and Al Amin Hossain, while they picked up unheralded Tanvir Haider along with Ebadot Hossain and Najmul Hossain Shanto in the main squad, which drew criticism from all quarters.
After missing two back-to-back series, they included Mustafizur Rahman, who has been struggling for his fitness following a successful operation on his should in London in August.
He entered his third and last phase of rehabilitation procedure, from where he is expected to return to his usual business in December if everything goes on in right direction.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Ebadot Hossain come from different perspective. Shanto played Under-19 World Cup for Bangladesh, while Ebadot emerged from Robi Pacer Hunt Programme. Therefore, both played warm-up games during England series, where they performed well.
In this regard, chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that they took Shanto and Ebadot to think future in mind.
“We have kept them as part of development programme. The activities of the high performance (HP) are not remained now. Even there are no games of Bangladesh ‘A’ team. If we can keep them in camp then we could comprehensively do work with them. They are our future planning.  But the different teams amongst 20 players will be formed for New Zealand series,” said Minhajul Abedin.
About Rubel Hossain, Nannu
said that Rubel does not regain his biting properly following his long injury layoff.
“He has nothing new in his bowling during Afghanistan series. There is an apparent deficit of his skills and bowling fitness. He is no more in rhythm, while he was bowling in longer period, which drew our attention,” the chief selector said.
“Mohammad Shohid returns after being healed from side strain injury. Mashrafe-Taskin are in the squad. Hopefully Mushtafiz will come back. Shafiul did very well. He is in good rhythm. I think Shuvashis may do well in that condition,” he also said.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi, who was included in both Test against England, joined with Rubel and Al Amin as stand-by players.
“We have some players in the same position. Mosaddek has been come at number 6-7 position in one day. Sabbir is doing well in Test. Thereafter, we have Shuvagata, who is doing spin better than Nasir. Along with that, Nasir is comparatively weak in pace attack,” Nannu explained the cause of dropping Nasir Hossain.
“We have Soumya beside them. We are thinking him as an all-rounder in New Zealand. He may bat at lower-order. Overall, we could not keep Nasir in the main squad. Actually we can’t keep so many players at the same position,” the former captain added.
