Four RU teachers get UGC award
University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded four Rajshahi University (RU) teachers for their success in research on Thursday noon.
Prof Dr Moshihur Rahman confirmed it through a press release. RU Folklore Deptt professor Mobarra Siddika was awarded while Music Department professor Dr Asit Roy was awarded for research on Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali, Public Administration Department professor Pranab Kumar Pandey for ‘Women’s Political Participation in Bangladesh: Role of Women’s Organisations’. Botany Department Assistant Professor Ahmed Humayun Kabir won UGC Award-2015 on ‘Mechanisms associated with differential tolerance to Fe deficiency in okra. RU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mizan Uddin and pro-vice chancellor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan congratulated them for their success and contribution to the education and research.
Stipends giving ceremony held
A function to distribute cheques for stipends among the meritorious students of Police Lines High School was held here on Friday at the auditorium of local Police Line.
The function, chaired by the Head Master of the school Abdul Qaium, was attended by the out-going police super of Faridpur M Jamil Hassan as the chief guest while Sadar upazilla chairman Khondoker Mohtesham Hossain Babor attended the function as special guest. Jamil Hassan in his speech said as the ex-officio president of the school managing committee he took initiatives to improve the standard of the school, including development of infrastructure, during his tenure. He said as part of that initiative he created a fund for awarding stipends among the meritorious students. Twelve meritorious students, who passed SSC examination from this school with good results, are now studying in different universities and colleges. Mohtesham Hossain said the school has recorded a marked improvement in terms of discipline and academic aspect. The function was also addressed by district Muktijoddha commander Abul Faez Shahnawaj.
7th founding anniv of JU SNEC celebrated
The 7th founding anniversary of Special Needs Education Center (SNEC), a school for autistic children, at Jahangirnagar University (JU) was celebrated here on the campus yesterday.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the function as the chief guest by cutting cake at the senate hall on the campus. Director (honorary) of the SNEC Professor Dr Hanif Ali conducted the programme while JU Treasurer Professor Dr Abul Khair and Additional Secretary of Social Welfare Ministry Sushanta Kumar Pramanik addressed as the special guests. Professor Farzana sought all out cooperation of public and private sectors of the country to run the SNEC properly. Addressing the programme, Pramanik said the government has already taken a special project worth of Taka 41.5 crore for promoting physically challenged people. He also assured to provide financial assistance for infrastructural development of the SNEC.
The SNEC, locally known as "Anandashala", started its journey in 2009 at JU, which is only educational institution for autistic children in the public universities of the country.
