RANGPUR: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has stressed on launching vigorous social movement against militancy and creating congenial academic atmosphere to properly educate the new generations as builders of modern Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Heads of the educational institutions, teachers, Olama-Mashaekhs, guardians and all citizens should remain alert and work to save the students from the evil forces and misinterpretation of Islam, the religion of peace," he said.
The Education Minister was addressing a massive rally titled "Improved Atmosphere for Education and Militancy-free Academic Institutions" held at Rangpur Zila School ground in the city yesterday afternoon as the chief guest.
The Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Dinajpur, organised the rally participated by the heads of all secondary, higher secondary and degree level schools, colleges, madrashas and technical institutions from all-over Rangpur division.
With Chairman of Dinajpur Education Board Professor Ahmed Hossain in the chair, Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Professor Mahbubur Rahman delivered welcome speech in the rally.
Professor Golam Mostafa, MP, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Education Chowdhury Nufat Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, DIG for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, Director General of the Directorate of Madrasha Education Billal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, addressed as the special guests.
In the beginning, heads of different schools, colleges and madrashas took part in the discussion and forwarded suggestions to free the educational institutions from militancy, create congenial academic atmosphere and ensure quality education.
Terming profession of the teachers as the noblest one, the Minister called upon heads of all educational institutions and teachers to keep vigil on the teachers as well as students to make their institutions free from militancy.
"The Olama-Mashaekhs, Imams and Islami Thinkers have already explained properly about Islam saying that militancy has no relation with religion and the
militants would never land to the Heaven through killing innocent people," he said.
Nahid said the vested quarters were misguiding some students by misinterpreting Islam to involve them with militancy for destabilising the country and destroying its economy and international reputation through killing innocent people.
"The educational institutions should enhance nurturing rich Bengali culture, heritage, history and arranging extra-curricular activities like sports, debate and other competitions to create social movement against militancy and misinterpretation of religion," he said.
