Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday night said they will not allow any political party to hold any rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8 on public security ground, UNB reports.
"Different political parties have sought permission from us for staging rallies at Suhrawardy Udyan on the same day and same time on November 7 and 8. So, we've decided not to allow any party to hold any rally at the venue at that time on security ground," Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Masudur Rahman said.
Earlier, BNP sought permission for holding a rally Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 to mark what it says the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
But Awami League leaders threatened to resist it saying November 7 is a day of killing freedom fighters and army officers.
In response, BNP said they will hold the rally by any means asking the ruling party leaders to resist the party if they can.
Backing off its rigid stance on the rally, BNP on Thursday said it has sought permission for staging the programme on November 8.
