Local people beat up and handed over two youths to police after they damaged some idols at a temple at Kadamtala of Dharmatala area in Jessore town on Wednesday night. The arrestees are Shamim, 22, son of Abdul Barek of Dharmatala and Jasim, 24, son of Tipu Hawlader of Sujalpur under Kotwali police station. Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police of Jessore, said local people handed over two people to the police after they had pushed down idols at a temple on Wednesday night. Police will arrest others if found involvement, he added.
Sub-inspector Arun Kumar of Kotwali police station filed a case yesterday morning accusing Shamim and Jasim with the police station. The two are now undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital under police custody, said Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge of Kotwali police station. Abdur Rob, medical officer at Jessore General Hospital, said the two were critically wounded. According to the statement of the case, Shamim and Jasim damaged Ramkrishna idol and the fence of ‘Sarbajanjn Kali Mandir’ at Kadamtala in Jessore town as priest Sadhan Kumar Paul protested at the sudden entry of the two at around 10:00pm on Wednesday. ‘The two were beaten up and handed over to the police after the incident,’ the statement said. Senior police officials visited spot. Police were also deployed there.
