West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, Sri Lankan veterans Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene arrived in Dhaka to play for Dhaka Dynamites in the fourth version of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) yesterday.

Of them, Kumar Sangakkara and Andre Russell had previous experience to play the BPL. But Mahela Jayawardene is making his debut in BPL. Sangakkara last year played for Dhaka Dynamites, who was embanked on their BPL campaign by his captaincy.
Andre Russell on the other hand had performed for Sylhet Royals in second edition but could not play the third version because of his injury.
Despite being formed a well-balanced team, they played the eliminator last year, where they were defeated by Barisal Bulls by 22 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
This year the team comparatively formed the most well-balanced team, which have the blend of young and experienced players. Besides the above veteran trio, Seekkuge Prasanna (SL), Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis (WI), Wayne Parnell (SA), Usama Mir (Pak) and Ravi Bopara (Eng) are in Dynamites’ disposal.
West Indies in-form all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who was the hero of West Indies last World T20 victory and English all-rounder Ravi Bopara joined the team and practiced with the team’s afternoon session at the National Cricket Academy yesterday. The rest of the overseas players will soon join the team before the outset of their current mission, said Dhaka Dynamites’ officials.
With them, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, promising Nasir Hossain, young sensation Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Sanjamul Islam, Alauddin Babu, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Mehedi Maruf, Mohammad Shohid, Irfan Sukkur (WK), Tanvir Haidar will join from the local stocks.
Dynamites held their first formal practice session at the NCA ground with the involvement of the most of the team players, where team manager Khaled Mahmud Sujon, batting coach Saiful Islam and bowling coach Talha Jubair were present.
After the end of the practice, all-rounder Nasir Hossain spoke to media, where he said that they are eying to play in the final of the BPL.
“In T20, there is no team apparently ‘favourite as each franchisee formed their respective team through players’ draft. So, there is no scope of big difference. It may 19 or 20. But a better side sometimes fails to win the title despite being formed a stronger team,” said Nasir Hossain.
“This year our franchisee comparatively formed a better team. It is better in terms of batting, bowling and fielding. I think it has been a compact team overall. So we could hope to play in the final,” Hossain told newsmen.
When asked about team’s and personal target, Nasir said that they want to become the champion of the BPL.
“Team’s target is to become champions in BPL. But my personal target is to contribute for the team. I will try my level best to help in the need of the team,” the 26-year-old batsman cum spinner said.
Dhaka Dynamites have so many all-rounder in the team, which is thought to be their main strength of the team. But Nasir said that their team is their main strength and all-rounders are their plus point.
“Our team is our strength because we are too close in the team. Some of us played last year in the team. All we are good team mates,” he said, adding “All-rounder is needed for T20 games. We have a good number of all-rounder in the team. It is our plus point.”
