Bangladesh has been elected as a member of Postal Operation Council (POC) of Universal Postal Union (UPU), reports BSS.
Bangladesh has been elected as one of the members from Asia-Oceania group of the POC through a tough competition, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications sources said.
The election was held at 26th Congress of UPU from September 20 to October 7 at the Turkish capital of Istanbul.
In Asia-Oceania group, Bangladesh, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, UAE, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait, India, Sri Lanka and Lebanon competed for four posts in the POC, that works for different policy making issues. A total of 147 countries voted to elect the POC member in the congress.
As a member country, Bangladesh will contribute significantly to different policy making issues such as postal services, charge fixing and technical assistance in the next four years.
