Official fined for denying info
The Information Commission (IC) on Wednesday fined a Youth Development Officer Md Ali R Reza at Jaldhaka Upazila under Nilphamari district Taka 2,000 in charge of separate two cases for denying information.
He was also asked to pay Taka 2400 as compensation while Taka 1,200 for each case, a press release said. Reza was fined as Jankibala and Bharati Rani of the upazila lodged two separate cases with IC against him after being denied to get information on training programmes, the release added. In charge of another case the IC urged Woman Affairs Officer Md Shamim Jahid Talukder under same upazila to pay Taka 1,200 as compensation, it said. The IC fined and urged the two officials to pay compensation after hearing on the cases, held at the IC Office in the city here. Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Professor Dr Md Golam Rahman, Information Commissioner Nepal Chandra Sarker and Professor Dr Khurshida Begum Sayeed took part at the hearing, it added.
Body of youth recovered
Police recovered the floating body of a youth from the Kushiara River of in Sylhet on Wednesday.
The victim, identified Jobrul Miah, 22, son of Abdus Salam, a resident of Hatuvanga Kumarpara village of Sylhet, went missing 12 days ago. Locals said Jobrul was missing after drowning in the Kushiara River in Uttar Islampur area on October 21. However, locals found his body in Jetty Ghat area of Madhurai village of the river on Wednesday around 11:00am and informed police. Later, the law enforcers went to the spot and recovered the body.
Four held with yaba, heroin
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four drug traders including a female with 2,175 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, 49-gram heroin and two mobile phone sets from Chittagong city's Shahid lane area under Akbarshah thana in the early hours of yesterday.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, 38, Shahidul Islam, 28, Rinku Akter, 24, and Mohammad Mobarak Hossainn, 26. A team of the RAB-7 conducted a raid in the area at about 12.30 am and nabbed the drug traders, a press release of RAB said. They also recovered the contraband drugs and two mobile sets from their possession, the release added.
‘Sewerage systems being developed’
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu said hygienic sanitation facilities, pure drinking water and modern sewerage systems are being developed for slum dwellers in the city.
"Adequate number of tube wells for ensuring pure drinking water, toilets, sewerage and drainage systems are being constructed to improve overall health, hygiene and sanitation facilities in the city," Jhantu said. He was addressing a ceremony arranged for inaugurating construction works of a six-chamber latrine and two-chamber bathroom unit at Sulfate Camp area in the city on Tuesday as the chief guest. The RpCC with assistance of 'Pollishree', an NGO, has been implementing construction works of the latrines and bathrooms for 1,500 slum dwellers under the improving water, sanitation and hygiene service (WASH) project for the urban slum dwellers.
