On October 27, a group of fifteen brightly dressed Yi women drew attention at Beijing Capital Airport. They came from Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province and took participate in the 2016 China (Beijing) International Fashion Week.
Upon arriving at the hotel lobby, the Yi women took out needle and thread and began to embroider. They found themselves surrounded by tourists in just a few minutes. Aine, a girl from Israel, was deeply impressed by the Yi embroidery. Seeing eight-year-old Yi girl Li Run, Aine excitedly kissed her again and again. The three youngest Yi girls, of whom two are eight years old and one is ten, drew the most attention from tourists.
China (Beijing) International Fashion Week 2016 included a Chuxiong Yi ethnic costume show, as well as a Ma Yanli high-end clothing release. These two events were an extension of the Colourful Yunnan Ethnic Costume Cultural Festival, as well as an important step for the millennium-old Chuxiong Yi embroidery tradition as it moves toward the international stage.
