Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, an ardent sports lover, has directed the authorities concerned for the construction of a residential house in Khulna for Mehedi Hasan Miraj, the new spin wizard of Bangladesh cricket.

The announcement came following Miraj’s sensational record-breaking performance that helped the Tigers level a Test series against a powerful England side during the recent tour of Bangladesh by the English Lions. The latest cricket sensation of Bangladesh took a record 19-wicket haul in two Tests against the English.

The premier’s Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad has already conveyed the decision to Khulna deputy commissioner (DC). The secretary has directed the Khulna DC to find a suitable piece of land to construct a residential house for the Mehedi family, according to a PMO press release issued yesterday.
“It’s like a dream come true. You see, I can’t express my happiness, I can just share my joy with you,” said an elated Mehedi when The Independent reached him over phone.
“I want to convey my heartfelt gratitude to our honourable prime minister for announcing this priceless gift for me. Really she is great and I, on behalf of my family, would like to thank her for this gift,” Miraj added. Mehedi said he was yet to receive any formal offering from the Prime Minister Office.
“I think she made the order just a few hours ago and it will take some time to reach me,” Miraj said.
“I saw it as breaking news on TV. After the news broke, I received a number of phone calls from my relatives and friends and all of them told me that I got the best reward from the prime minister for my performance,” Miraj continued.
He also said that the Khulna DC called him over phone to inform him the news.
“Once again, I would like to thank the honourable prime minister for the gift, which will definitely help our family to improve the living standard. Till date, we used to reside in a rented house at Khalishpur in Khulna after shifting from Barisal in 2000.”
This young prodigy, however, did not forget to express his gratitude to the media for highlighting him in the international arena.
