RU teachers, students demand justice

RAJSHAHI: Teachers, students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department of Rajshahi University (RU) formed a human chain on the campus yesterday demanding investigation into the deaths of Akhter Jahan Jolly, a teacher of the department, and student Motaleb Hossain Lipu and exemplary punishment of the killers

Rafiqul Islam, masters student of the Department, moderated the programme while the chairman of the department Dr Prodip Kumar Pandy, university mass communication officer Prof Moshiur Rahman, English department chairman Prof AFM Akter Masud, Nawab Abdul Latif Hall provost Prof Bipul Kumar Biswas, Social Work department teacher Prof Robiul Islam and students of the department, among others, addressed the human chain in front of Senate Bhaban around 12.30pm yesterday. 
Speakers said it can’t be ignored that MCJ department teacher Jolly and student Lip were murdered. The students and teachers of the university are being killed one after another but no one got justice yet. They demanded proper investigation into the deaths of Lipu and RU teacher Joly and immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.
After the human chain programme, they also brought out a mourning procession on the campus. No classes were held at the department as they decided to boycott their classes for seven days and that will continue till November 7.
Following the killing, Music department, Folklore department, Social Work, Jhenidah Zilla Samity , Kiustia Zilla Samaty also formed a human chain on the campus.
On September 9 last, Akhter Jahan Jolly, 45, a female teacher of Rajshahi University’s Journalism department, was found dead at her university residence on the campus.
Besides, Motaleb Hossain Lipu, 22, a 2nd year student of the RU Journalism Department, was found dead in a drain of Nabab Abdul Latif Hall on the campus on October 20.
