Drug addict hacks UP chairman

A union parishad chairman was hacked by a ‘drug addict’ in Gouripur upazila headquarters early yesterday. 

Shahidul Islam, 30, chairman of Achintapur Union Parishad in Gouripur,  and also secretary of the union unit Awami League, was stabbed by Jasim Uddin, 44, at Kalipur around 12.00am.  
Hearing scream local people rushed to the spot and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later, he was referred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated, said Delwar Hossain, OC of Gouripur Police Station.
Police arrested Jasim. A case was filed in this connection and he was sent to jail.
Jasim’s brother Muslem said Jasim is a drug addict.
