‘Resist militancy through enhancing cultural activities’

RANGPUR: State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga yesterday stressed on enhancing cultural activities to resist militancy, terrorism and fundamentalist extremism, reports BSS.
“The cultural, literary and social organisations should expand the periphery of nurturing healthier cultural and literary activities involving the young generations and youths to eliminate militancy and terrorism from this soil,” he said.
The state minister was addressing inaugural ceremony of the six-day ‘Sonic Prime Drama Festival-2016’ being organised by Rangpur Natty Kendra in observance of its 18th founding anniversary at Town Hall premises as chief guest.
Ranga formally inaugurated the festival by raising the national flag before leading a colourful rally, participated by dramatists, drama artistes and cultural personalities, activists and leaders of cultural organisations, in the city streets.
With President of Rangpur Nattya Kendra Kazi Junnon in the chair, former mayor of defunct Rangpur municipality AKM Abdur Rouf Manik, General Secretary of district unit of Sommilito Sangskritik Jote Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick and Executive Officer of Sonic Prime Group Aminul Islam addressed the ceremony.
General Secretary of Rangpur Nattya Kendra and Organising Secretary of Rangpur divisional unit of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation Razzaque Murad moderated the occasion.
The speakers put importance on enriching Bengali culture through strengthening cultural movement, producing more drama artistes and popularising stage and street dramas to establish non-communal spirit in building a peaceful Bangladesh.
The chief guest called upon the dramatists for writing and staging time-befitting dramas to create a renaissance and inspire common people for resisting militancy, terrorism and fundamentalist extremism to accelerate national development.
He stressed on awakening the young generations through enhancing cultural activities in the educational institutions, villages, towns and everywhere to create stiff resistance against militancy.
