Mohammedan Sporting Club made a winning start in the second leg of the JB Bangladesh Premier League football when they downed a high flying Rahmatganj MFS by 2-1 yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
In the mostly Mohammedans’ dominated match, Rahmatganj scored the first goal through Dawda Cessay but Patrice scored the equaliser and Ismail Bangura scored the winning goal for Mohammedan.
It was second win out of 12 encounters for Mohammedan while they tasted the first win after defeating title holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in their second last match of the first leg.
However, after the win Mohammedan brought their tally to 12 points and lifted them to seventh position from 10 while Rahmatganj, who were fighting almost evenly with the title holders and the title aspirants, and despite suffering second defeat out of 12 outings they are still on track to fight with the favorites.
Rahmatganj made the breakthrough on 28th minute and it looked they were going to prove their indomitable run when Dawda Cessay of Cameroon just beat two of his markers inside the box and volleyed home (1-0).
Mohammedan, who have no option but to win to come out from awkward position in the point table, bounced back strongly and after their captain Ismail Bangura giving missing trial for twice failing to capitalize easy opportunities on 29th and 34th minute, equalized the margin on 40th.
This time after a long range free kick of Aminur Rahman Sajib denying by the side post and Tawhidul Alam Sabuj effort was fisted by goalkeeper, the ball came Practice way, who did not make mistake to head it into near post (1-1).
After the 1-1 first half, both sides came more hostile to bring the result in favored of them and Mohammedan made it success after fighting hard when Ismail Bangura, the Nigerian found the net in his third attempt on 85th minute.
Bangura, who took a good header into far post on Tawhidul Alam Sabuj cut back, gave Mohammedan a huge comfort, as it was the winning goal of the match. In fact, most of the credit should go for Sabuj for this goal when the forward made the way with a solo run receiving the ball at the mid way of Rahmatganj half before set the ball for Bangura.
