Contempt rule against three secretaries

The High Court yesterday issued contempt of court rule against three secretaries for not complying with its earlier order that had on August 14 asked them to explain within seven days the ambiguity in the Children Act, 2013 for the trial of an adult accused under this law.
The HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan issued the contempt of court rule against the secretaries of legislative and draft wing, law and justice affairs and social welfare for not giving the explanation before the HC as per its order.
The HC asked them to explain why the contempt of court proceedings should no be drawn against them for violating the High Court order. They were asked to respond the HC rule within three weeks.
Earlier, on August 14, during the bail hearing of four children, the HC asked the secretaries to explain within seven days the ambiguity in the Children Act, 2013 for the trial of an adult accused under this law.  There are child courts in very district under the Children Act, 2013. Recently, the child courts of Dhaka, Rangpur,
Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar heard the bail petitions of four adults accused in four cases under the law.
Later, an HC bench issued a rule asking the four judges to explain why they accepted the bail petitions of the adult accused under the law.
In their explanations, the four judges mentioned that the children act does not specify which court will hold the trial of an adult accused in a case filed under this law. They also sought High Court directives in this regard.
