A Dhaka court will deliver its verdict on November 6 in a case filed against cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Jesmin Jahan Nittya for torturing their domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11.
Judge Tanjina Ismail of Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal- 5 fixed the date after completing arguments.
Journalist Khandkar Mozzamel Haque filed a case against Shahadat and his wife with Mirpur Model Police Station under Section 4 (2) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000 on September 6, 2015.
According to the case statement, the journalist found the domestic help of Shahadat, lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Colony area at Pallabi in the capital the same day.Happy alleged that the cricketer and his wife tortured her.
On February 22 this year, the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal- 5 framed the charges against Shahadat and his wife.
Earlier on October 4, Jesmin Jahan Nittya was arrested and Shahadat surrendered before the court of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, which rejected his bail plea and sent him to prison. On December 1, the same court granted bail to his wife. Shahadat then moved the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge for bail, but was turned down. On December 8, the High Court granted him bail.
The fast bowler last played for Bangladesh in May last year against Pakistan. He went off the field on the first day of first Test with a leg injury.
