High Court to hear four death references

A high Court bench has enlisted the four-much talked about the four death references—blogger Rajib, police official Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife, Rajon and Rakib killing cases---in its daily case list for holding hearing on it. The High Court bench led by Justice Jahangir Hossain is likely to hear the blogger Rajib killing case today as the matter has been included in the Tuesday’s case list as the item number 2, Supreme Court sources said. The other three death references will also hear by the HC bench one after another as all the much talked about the death references has been kept at the top of daily cause list of the bench for hearing, sources added.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha rencently assigned the HC bench to hold the hearing on the important death references, sources noted.
Blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider hacked to death near his Mirpur house in the capital on February 15, 2013.
On December 31, a Dhaka court handed down death penalty to two people and different jail terms to six others, including the chief of banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, for the killing of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.
Six people were sentenced to death and five to varying terms of imprisonment for the brutal murders of 13-year old boy Rajon in Sylhet and 12-year-old Rakib in Khulna that sparked mass outrage and protests across the country.
A Sylhet court on November 5 sentenced four people, including prime accused Quamrul Islam, to death for beating Rajon to death on July 8 last year.
A Khulna court the same day gave death penalty to Omar Sharif and his uncle Mintu Khan for killing Rakib by pumping air into his rectum on August 3 last year.
On August 16, 2013, the bodies of Mahfuzur, inspector of Special Branch of Police, and his wife Swapna Rahman were recovered from their Chamelibagh house in the capital.
