All must abide by party rules

Quader to AL leaders, activists

Issuing a strong note of warning to the party’s errant leaders and activists, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said all must abide by the party rules as no deviation will be allowed, reports UNB. “Those involved in anti-discipline activities and misdeeds, you please correct yourselves. No one will be spared if you don’t. It’s the directive of our leader (Sheikh Hasina),” he said.
Obaidul Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, was addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka North city unit at a community centre in the city’s Mohammadpur area. Describing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a wonder of the world and role model of development and achievement, the ruling party leader said, “We won’t let these development and achievements fade away for the bad behaviour of a few. We won’t let the image of the government and party be tarnished for them because the achievement of Sheikh Hasina is the achievement of Bangladesh.” Pointing at the party leaders and activists, he said there is no necessity to erect archways or present flowers to any leader. “Make people happy, not the leaders. We don’t want flowers or garlands. Rather you exhibit good behaviour with people,” he added.
Quader also asked the party leaders not to be frustrated but to work with commitment. “If you work hard, you’ll get reward one day. I’m an example of it. There’s no alternative to hard work in politics. I did hard work and the leader (Hasina) gave me the reward.” About the suspension of two Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders over Thursday’s clash with police during a drive to dismantle illegal structures from the city's Gulistan area, the ruling party general secretary said this is the first action after the council. “Wait…we won’t allow any grouping.”
Awami League joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak and organising secretary Enamul Haque Shamim, among others, spoke at the meeting held with Awami Dhaka North city unit president AKM Rahmatullah in the chair.
