The minister directed them to take action immediately,” Jahangir Alam Khan, senior information officer of the shipping ministry, told The Independent. Violating a High Court (HC) ruling, a private company is constructing an inland container terminal (ICT), about 40 feet inside the Shitlakhya river, by allegedly removing 17 demarcation pillars at Dhamghar, in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj. According to the BIWTA and a report of the assistant commissioner (land), the company, Rupayan Port and Logistics Limited, has constructed the ICT occupying river banks. The 17 pillars, set up as per HC directives to mark the boundary and foreshore of the river, were demolished.
