Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all responsibilities for the treatment of noted poet Helal Hafiz, reports UNB. "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all responsibilities for the treatment of the ailing poet when he called on her at her official residence Ganobhaban this (Sunday) evening," PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said. During the meeting, the Prime Minister enquired about the health condition of the poet, who has been suffering from glaucoma.
Helal Hafiz also presented two poetry books -- Je Jole Agun Jole and Kobita'71 -- to Hasina. During the 45-minute meeting, the poet also recited his own poems before the Prime Minister.
Ophthalmologist of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Nuzhat Chowdhury was present on the occasion. One eye of the 68-year-old poet has fully been damaged while the condition of the other is critical due to glaucoma, doctors said.
