This was a follow-up on the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month, said the sources.
In that meeting, Suu Kyi sought Bangladesh’s cooperation to resolve the problem in the Rakhine state that borders with Bangladesh.
Having agreed to extend cooperation, the prime minister said that Bangladesh wants sustainable condition in the Rakhine state, they added.
As part of Bangladesh’s efforts to cooperate on security, Dhaka unequivocally condemned the attacks on the Myanmar Border Guard Police personnel and underscored the need for arresting perpetrators and for due judicial process to bring them to justice.
Taking note of the attacks on Myanmar Border Guard Police and the clashes that followed, the Foreign Ministry said that Dhaka finds these developments in Rakhine State, bordering Bangladesh disturbing and Bangladesh unequivocally condemns the attacks on Myanmar forces.
