Country’s renowned long distance swimmer Rowshan Ali died of kidney and diabetes ailment at his Hethomkha residence in Rajshahi on Sunday morning. He was 65.
He left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters to mourn his death. He was buried at Hethomkha graveyard in the evening. Rowshan Ali twice stood first in the Indian long distance swimming in 1972 and 173 at Bhagaratahi river in Murshidabad. He started his national swimming career with a couple of golds in 800 and 1500 metre swimming. He received the National Sports Award in 2000.
The Chief of Naval Staff and President of Bangladesh Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed condoled the death of Rowshan Ali and expressed his heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family.
