Dhaka Test tit-bit

Sports Reporter

A dress-rehearsal of future captaincy!

Tamim Iqbal at the moment is the vice-captain to Mushfiqur Rahim in Test format. But probably it won’t be surprising to see him leading the side during the Test series against New Zealand, specially after the way Mushfiqur made some tactical wrong as a captain against England. The victory could give Mushfiqur some solace but on the third day it seemed Tamim Iqbal was in the charge of the team. He directed the bowlers and set the fielding position and every change paid a dividend indeed. A dress rehearsal of the captaincy!

Kayes’ 1,000 at home

His career is all about ups and downs but Imrul Kayes probably is spending the most memorable phase of his career at the moment. After settling him as the opening partner of Tamim Iqbal in the Test cricket, he also revived his ODI career because of a poor form, sustained by Soumya Sarkar. On the third day of the second Test against England, during his 78-run knock, Kayes however crossed the 1,000 Test run at home as the seventh Bangladesh batsman. His fellow opener Tamim Iqbal led the charge with 2,207 runs.

Shakib amends with bowling

Team insider said Shakib Al Hasan showed no repentant for the shot he played in the first innings of the first Test in Chittagong. The wretched shot forced Bangladesh concede a crucial 45-run lead which acted as the catalyst of Bangladesh’s 22-run defeat. What was most alarming that he wasn’t even rebuked by the team management. In the second Test, Mahmudullah Riyad played almost similar kind of rash shot to throw his wicket in the last ball of the second day. Shakib thereafter was seen to have a batting knock, aided by Nurul Hasan Sohan at Sher-e-Bangla stadium right after the day’s play was closed. He perhaps got the point finally that he would be crucial for Bangladesh in taking a considerable lead. However he made 41 in the second innings but he looked vulnerable always and most irritating scene was that he tried to charge every ball when there was no need to hurry. He could have gone on 23 had Ben Duckett not dropped a sitter at deep midwicket off Zafar Ansari. But Alas he couldn’t make his life count. However Shakib later compensated with four for 49 in his bowling.

Salute to celebrate

Ben Stokes has already developed bitter-sweet relation with Bangladesh. From his on field behaviour with Tamim Iqbal during the ODI series, the incident of refusing of handshake with Abdul Majid during the practice game ahead of Test series to come up to help Sabbir Rahman who was hit on his head by his bouncer, Stokes was a character. His performance on the field was also noteworthy as he led England a fascinating victory in the first Test. So when Ben Stokes was dismissed by Shakib, he bowler celebrated the wicket by saluting him, the way Samuel Marlon celebrated once after dismissing him. Samuel had bitter relation with Stokes by the way.
