College student killed over land dispute in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: A college student, who sustained injuries as a group of people beat him up over a land related dispute at Dhurail in Mohanpur upzila on Friday morning, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shakil Ahmed, 18, son of Mozibur Rahman, a resident of Dhurail Hatpara village. He was a first year student of Rajshahi City College.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station AKM Masud Parveez said the victim’s father Mozibur Rahman had been at longstanding loggerheads with Ataur Rahman, Jafar Ali and Aminul Islam of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.
Ataur, Jafar and Aminul swooped on Shakil on Friday morning and beat him up brutally, leaving him injured.
Later, locals rescued him and whisked him off to RMCH where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
