The citizens are now getting their vehicle fitness certificates under digital one instead of manual system as the fitness test of vehicles is being brought under modern technology in transport management, reports BSS. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has already set up a vehicle inspection centre (VIC) at Mirpur in the capital at a cost of Tk 24.18 crore. Government spent Tk 2.84 crores and the rest provided by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KICA) as grants. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader formally inaugurated distribution of digital vehicle fitness certificates yesterday at BRTA premises here.
Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges M Ekabbor Hossain, MP, Kamal Ahmed Mazumder, MP, Nazmul Islam, MP, Monirul Islam, MP, South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KICA) country director Joe Hyungue were present. The minister said “No syndication will be allowed. Our main challenge is to maintain discipline in roads and highways.”
Handing over digital vehicle fitness certificate, Quader said with a view to scale down the corruptions, the transparency and accountability would be increased. The minister said that the vehicle inspection centre (VIC) would be set up at district level in phases. South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo said his country would finance for setting up four more VIC centers in Bangladesh. Secretary to the Road Transport and Bridges MAN Siddique, BRTA chairman M Nazrul Islam, DCA executive director Kaikobad Hossain and leaders and vehicle owners and workers associations were present.
