Hawkers, police clash in Gulistan

A clash between hawkers and the police erupted when employees of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) went for an eviction drive in an underground market of Gulistan yesterday. The DSCC started its eviction drive at Sundarban Market around 2pm yesterday. At one stage, hawkers tried to foil the drive, which resulted in a melee. Paltan police station officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said the hawkers attacked DSCC officials and policemen when they went there to conduct the eviction drive. The situation was brought under control after one hour.
