Sylhet college student Khadiza Begum Nargis, who was stabbed by a BCL leader, has been shifted to a cabin from the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Square Hospital in the capital early yesterday as her condition is improving slowly. Her father Mashuk Mia informed reporters of her being shifted to the cabin. Quoting physicians, he said Khadiza needed long-term treatment for recovery. As her left arm and leg are still paralysed, she is being given physiotherapy.
A few days ago, Khadiza was taken off the life support system. For the last few days, she had been able to recognise and call her family members by their names. “Sometimes she recognises me or her uncle and call us by names in a faint voice,” Mia said. Doctors operated on her right hand on October 17. They said sugery on her left hand would have to wait till her overall condition improved further.
On October 3, Khadiza, a second year degree student of Sylhet Govt Mohila College, was stabbed by Badrul Alam, a BCL leader of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), after she spurned his advances. Khadiza was first taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Square Hospital in Dhaka.
