Mushfiq wants to push England all the way

He becomes the third Tigers to play 50 Test matches

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim wants his side to build on the positive vibe, gained form the first Test, as he urges the players to push England vigorously to get them into the winning position once again.

He insisted his team should not waste the opportunity if they came close to victory like Chittagong.
“We are still hurting from the loss in Chittagong so it is best to move on from that game. We know that had we given 1 per cent more, the Test would have been in our favour. We would like to take the positive from that game, and use them in Dhaka,” Mushfiqur Rahim said ahead of the second and final Test yesterday.
“We were in the back-foot playing our first Test after 15 months. We weren’t the favorites but the boys did well. I have always wanted our team to be consistent in Tests. We want to start well here, and take the confidence from Chittagong.”
Bangladesh did not show any signs of rust in the first Test at Chittagong as their last Test against South Africa in 2015. Without their main spearhead Mustafizur Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan took on the bowling responsibilities by himself and almost spun his team to victory.
Shakib along with Mehedi and Taijul Islam, made three-pronged spin attack to keep England at bay during the first Test. The wicket however assisted the trio and Mushfiqur wants the similar wicket what was used in Chittagong, even though he knows the overnight rain and the difference of soil between Chittagong and Dhaka would not make it completely that sort of wicket what they got in the port city.
“The Dhaka Test will be played on a different soil altogether. We don’t know how it will behave but I just want our spinners to take advantage from the wicket and for the batsmen to be more responsible.”
“The rain might have some impact on our plans. But the wicket is mostly prepared but if the sun was out today, it would have dried up further. If there’s a bit of moisture, the ball would be gripping on the surface for the spinners.”
Mushfiqur is set to become the third Bangladeshi player after Habibul Bashar Sumon and Mohammad Ashraful to play 50 Test for Bangladesh when he gets down the field today. He expect that he would play to his potential to make it memorable.
“It feels really good. It’s not easy to play 50 Tests for Bangladesh and I want to thank God. I will try to play well individually and that we get a good result,” he said.
“ The biggest change I would say is that in the last few years we have many performers in the team. That is a really positive sign for any team and that’s why consistently Bangladesh is playing well. I hope we all perform well and that we can end the Test well.”
However while the captain relied on his spinners, he also backed his pacers to come up with fire. Bangladesh included fresh blood Shuvashis Roy replacing Shafiul Islam for the second Test and the former is likely to get a nod if Bangladesh opts for two pacers.
He also was wary about the reverse-swing of the England pacer and said this time they would try not to expose the tail-enders when the visitors get the ball reverse.
“There are very few batsmen in the world who can tackle reverse swing. We were playing a very good quality bowling attack after a long time. We will try not to expose our tail enders to that type of bowling, and try to do most of the scoring from the top and middle order.
“It is hard to get reverse swing if we don’t maintain the ball properly. If there’s shine on one side, it helps the spinners as the ball grips and skids. Maintaining the ball would also help our pace bowlers.”
