Online tax return starts on trial basis

Taxpayers will now be able to submit their tax returns online as State Minister for Finance and Planning M A Mannan inaugurated the online system on trial basis at the tax circle-4 in Segunbagicha here yesterday.
The taxpayers will also be able to pay their tax by this digital system, reports BSS.
"We want to take the country ahead by using the modern technology. Online tax return submission will help the taxpayers submit their return easily," M A Mannan said at the inaugural ceremony.
The state minister stressed the need for simplifying the income tax return form to ensure better service for the taxpayers.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Nojibor Raman said the online tax return submission has been introduced on experimental basis as part of NBR's digitisation of tax management activities. This opportunity will be open for all from November 1, he added.
NBR member and director of its Strengthening Governance Management Project Kalipada Haldar made a presentation of the online system at the inaugural programme. Country's 649 tax circles under the 31 tax zones have been connected with the main server.
Chief executive of Public Private Partnership authority of the Prime Minister's Office Syed Afsor H Uddin was also present at the programme.
A Vietnam based IT firm FPT Information Systems Corporation is installing the online system at a cost of Tk 51 crore provided by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
