Barisal ready for Diwali today
Swasan Diwali Uthsab, one of the historic festivals, for the Hindu community, will be celebrated in Barisal city today.
The festival will be started at 7:45pm and will be continued up to 8:18pm tomorrow. Hindu community already repaired and furnished graves of their nearest and dearest ones. To control any incident authority set up CC cameras around the premises and Barisal metro police took strong security during the festival.
Several thousand people from different parts of the country and also from out of the country attended the festival every year.
Organiser will release several 'Fanus', a big size colorful balloon in the sky in the night of Dewali.
Garment worker found dead
Police recovered the hanging body of a female garment worker from a house at Dakkhin Salna in Gazipur city on Thursday.
Locals said Rozina Begum, 22, a garment worker of a local garment factory and wife of Afar Uddin of Netrakona, used to live at a rented house in the area.
Getting no response from Rozina’s house for long, locals peeped through the window of the house around 8am and saw Rozina hanging from the ceiling.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police arrested Rozina’s husband in this connection but he claimed that she committed suicide over family feud.
One held with fake notes
Police in a drive arrested a man with fake currency worth about Taka three thousand from Molovipara area under Doublemooring thana in Chaittagong city on Wednesday night.
The arrested person was identified as Mohammad Anwar Hossain, 39, hailed from Titash upazila of Comilla district.
A team of the Doublemooring thana police conducted the raid in the area and nabbed Anwar while he was waiting for exchanging the fake notes at about 11.30 pm.
Four food shops fined
Members of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined four food shops Taka 12,000 on charges of selling sub-standard foods in the district yesterday.
A team of the DNCRP conducted raids in Dayingpara Bazar and Godagari Bazar areas under Godagari upazila of the district and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition.
The team fined the shops Taka 12,000 and realized the money from the shop owners on the spot. Deputy Director of DNCRP Mahabubur Rahman said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue.
Councilor held on extortion charge
Police arrested city councilor for Ward No-5 of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Mokhlesur Rahman Taru, 45, on extortion charges in the city yesterday morning.
“Taru was arrested from his house in Khotkhotia area of the city as per an extortion case filed against him by manager of local Labaid Hospital Farid Ahmed,” officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam told BSS. He said that the case was filed against Taru for demanding and realising extortion money from the authority of the private sector hospital situated in Dhap area of the city on a monthly basis.
Pump operator’s body found
Body of a pump operator was recovered from near a paddy field at Sarkura village under Tanore Upazila of the disgtrict Thursday noon, police sources said.
The deceased was identified as Akbar Ali, 55, son of Dumna Shah, a resident of Malshira village under the same upazila. He was an irrigation pump operator of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA).
Being informed by the villagers’ police recovered the body at around 2.30 pm.
The body was sent to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College for post mortem.
