Money allocated for TR project embezzled

Allegations have been found in  Test Relief (TR) project funds under the Rural Infrastructure Development and Maintenance programme of Kalihati Upazila in the 2015-‘16 fiscal year.
Kalihati Upazila Project Implementation Office sources said Tk 2.6 lakh allocated for two projects have been found fake. Besides, no evidence of work was found at the project sight of public toilet at Kalihati kitchen market as Tk 3 lak allocated for it.President of Kalihati Bazaar Samity Aminul Islam said ‘I have been conducting my business for 19 years. There is no public toilet in the kitchen market.”
Though Tk 3.2 lakh have been allocated for filling earth on Kalihati Scout Bhaban ground, Secretary of Kalihati Scout Sukur Mahmood Talukder knows nothing about it. He said “Scout Bhaban has no ground. We arrange functions of the scouts in RS Model School premises and Khilda Government Primary School playground.”
While contacted Upazila Project Implementation Officer Al Amin denied the allegations.
UNO of Kalihati Abu Nasar Uddin said that PIO is visiting the projects. He informed that they are investigating in this connection. He, however, gave assurance of taking legal steps against the accused after investigation.
The locals suggested that the corruption and irregularities would be unearthed if proper investigation is conducted.
