Promising youngster Mosaddek Hossain Saikat shot into the limelight after he got out of the age-group cricket. He justified his development having got opportunity to play in the domestic league.
Thereafter, he has not looked back. Mymensingh-born lad played one after another league and tournaments and scored in the same pace with the senior players. He meanwhile played five one day internationals and one-off T20 internationals stepping in the international arena. The boy got the call-up for the first time for the second Test against England.
He said that he wanted to make his international debut with Test what he enjoys more than the other formats of cricket.
“While I finished the national cricket league last year I thought I will make my international debut with Test. But the debut has been made with T20. Thereafter, my expectation has been filled up when I debuted with one day,” said Mosaddek Hossain yesterday.
“Still I don’t know whether I can debut in Test. But I am in Test squad. Let’s see what happens and what team management does,” Saikat told reporters at the BCB-National Cricket Academy.
“I like most to play one day cricket and then longer version. Batsman gets more time to play in longer version. Being well-set, one can make runs. This scope is more in longer version. I enjoy more in this format,” he added.
The 20-year-old batsman said that he is ready to play at any position in the need of the team.
“I have accepted after playing Premier League last year that I have to bat at lower order if I play for the national team. I’m fully prepared to play at any position for the team whether it is top or lower-order. Actually I don’t think much about it. I am concentrating on my batting,” he said.
Asked if he set any target on debut (if he does), Mosaddek said that he will try to play his usual game after being well-set in the surface.
“I have no any big target. Playing own game is my target. It is Test match. So I will not tell you that I will make the team ‘winners’. I will try here to bat for a longer period and can play a long innings. I will try to bat as per the situation,” he said, adding “If a batsman can set in wicket then bowler does not matter much to him. I think if I can set well in wicket then I could play my natural game. If it is done then I could do better, Inshallah.”
Drawing a comparison between Sabbir Rahman and him, Hossain said that they are almost same in terms of batting style and strike rate.
“In terms of batting style and strike rate, Sabbir and I are the almost same. I played national league earlier. So I have idea how to play on fourth day. If he can play better cricket playing less number of four-dayers then why not I will play?,” he thinks.
In under-19, Saikat played together with Mehedi Hasan Miraj, who made a memorable debut in Test for Bangladesh against England. Both have a good record in that level of cricket.
“Miraj’s bowling strikes me much. He made his debut against a stronger side. He took six wickets. It is not easier to get,” he said about Miraj.
