A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against Dhaka city BNP’s joint convener MA Qaiyum and six others in a case filed in connection with the murder of Italian aid worker Tavella Cesare. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Kamrul Hossain passed the order rejecting the discharge petition by five of the accused. The court also fixed November 24 for starting the hearing. Six other accused are: Qaiyum’s brother Abdul Matin, Russel Chowdhury alias Chatki Russel, Minhazul Arefin Russel alias Bhagne Russel, Tamzid Ahmed Rubel alias Mobile Rubel alias Shooter Rubel, Shakhawat Hossain alias Sharif and Md Sohel. Among the accused Qaiyum and Sohel remain absconding. Earlier, police submitted the charge sheet against them to a Dhaka court on June 28. On 28 September, 2015, Italian national Cesare Tavella, 50, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants at road no. 90 of the diplomatic zone, Gulshan.
